Hi I realise that there are other threads in thsi forum but I feel this thread will be relevant to many others and I need some answers directly aimed at my own questions because I just dont understand and If you read this thread you will understand.

Ive got a fat PSP which I got pretty soon after it was released in Australia so its one of the first models.

It is software version 2.81 at the moment.
The number code thing on the bottom sticker ends with PSP1002 if that means anything and If theres any other information you need to know just ask.

I have been a bit busy to say the least and havnt really played with my PSP at all for what seems like 6 months or so and I only have a few old games for it, but I really want to get in to hacking and modding.

Ive been looking up all sorts of sites specialising in that area but I cant find a good place to start from scratch, everything i can find with any sort of guides assume you know a bit about what they are talking about.

I dont know much at all, but I have managed to work out what a pandora is, what a magic memory stick is, that CFW stands for custom firmwares.

I am confident in creating my own Pandora battery with a spare i can get from a friend, I have looked up a guide on how to open it up and cut the little leg on the chip but is there anything else I need to know?

Basically I want to be able to put homebrew on, download and play PSP games, or rip my own, put on fun operating systems and firmwares and jsut do all sorts of fun things to enhance my psp.

I feel this thread will be relevant for many people and not just me, so if you can in any way help us out, please do I will be greatly appreciative.
after creating a pandora battery, you will also need to create a magic memory stick. you will need a psp with custom firmware to do that, or you can find the required files online (search google for something like magic memory stick files or msipl.bin). they include copyrighting files so i can't give you links to them.

after you find them, post back for further help.
thanks for you help Smile

Well long story short, I have successfully downgraded to firmware 1.50 using the GTA:LCS exploit and im wondering what to do next.

Im guessing I install some custom firmware, but i dont know which one, the benefits of different ones and how and where i get it from etc.
Upgrade to custom firmware 3.52 M33 first:
http://www.psphacksmods.com/2007/07/25/c...-released/

Then get 3.52 M33-4:
http://www.psphacksmods.com/2007/08/20/c...352-m33-4/

The above steps are required before upgrading to any higher custom firmware. Once you get to 3.52 M33-4, upgrade to 4.01 M33 (newest):
http://www.psphacksmods.com/2008/06/29/c...-released/

Download 4.01 M33 first and upgrade, Then download 4.01 M33 update #2. Also, don't forget to download the 1.50 kernel addon:
http://www.psphacksmods.com/2008/06/29/1...r-401-m33/
thanks for your help. How would i go about upgrading from 3.90 M33-3 to 4.01 M33? I understand I have to have 4.01 before getting the 4.01 update.
Download 4.01 M33:
http://www.psphacksmods.com/images/401m33.rar

you can update directly to 4.01 M33 with 3.90 M33-3
