Asteroids
Originally released in 1979, Asteroids was one of the most popular and important games of the Golden Age of Arcade Games. Its concept was simple - players shoot and destroy as many asteroids and UFOs as possible without getting hit by the fragments of shot asteroids. Within that simple concept lay great challenges as the more asteroids you shot resulted in more fragments on the screen to either shoot down or avoid before they crashed into your ship. Your only defenses were your ship's gun that could fire straight ahead and your thrusters that could move you forward and out of harm's way, but not for long.

As you can see, the updated graphics have given Asteroids an aesthetic lift, but Asteroids' old-school challenge remains in tact. Inspiring legions of space shooters through the years, this is the game that separates the best from the rest.

Battlezone
Released in 1980, Battlezone featured some of the most epic tank battles of its day. Because of its unique gameplay and style, the game was enjoyed great popularity for many years. In Battlezone, players controlled a tank on a mission to destroy enemy tanks and supertanks. In addition to enemy tanks, UFOs and guided missiles also appeared occasionally for bonus opportunities. The battlefield was also littered with various obstacles like pyramids and blocks that could block your tank's progress, but also be used as shields to absorb enemy fire.

Atari Classics gives gamers another chance to play this combat gem and become a master of tank warfare.

Centipede
Centipede was originally released in 1980 and is noted as the first arcade game created by a woman, Dona Bailey. This was also the first arcade game to earn a significant female player base. In the game, players control a garden gnome (yes, that's what your character actually is) who must defend against swarms of insects. In order to advance to the next stage, the player must eliminate the centipede that is quickly winding its way down the playing field. The centipede will split into two independently moving pieces if shot in the middle, doubling the challenge. Players must also defend against spiders, fleas and scorpions while trying to kill off the centipede.

The game was originally played with a trackball for movement and a button for firing lasers, but the PSP's controls bring a more modern control scheme that allows for more intuitive movement of your character.
